  • Hambach (France), Apr 1, 2016 - After five years as site manager of the smart plant in Hambach, on 1 April 2016, Dr Joachim Betker hands over to his successor Serge Siebert. Dr Annette Winkler, Head of smart: "Serge Siebert has worked at the smart plant in Hambach for many years in various management positions and has an excellent reputation among the team. I am convinced that he will continue Dr Betker's outstanding work and I wish both colleagues good luck and success in their new positions."
  • Hambach, France, Oct 20, 2014 - Highly efficient assembly and logistics processes and suppliers directly located on the plant's premises as system partners: the smart plant in Hambach, France, has stood for the success story of an innovative, particularly lean production concept since the decision was made in 1994 to build the plant. In its domain, it has set standards in the automotive industry and continues to do so. Around 1.6 million smart fortwo vehicles have rolled off the plant's production line until today.
  • Hambach, France , Jul 16, 2013 - Next milestone in the plant history: the smart Hambach plant produced the 1.5 millionth smart fortwo. The milestone vehicle, a white smart forwo electric drive cabrio, rolled off the production line before the beginning of the extended summer break: production will be paused for almost two months in July and August, as massive efforts are being taken to prepare the plant optimally for future production requirements with the renewal of large parts of the production installations.

In a first step, 1,000 vehicles will be provided to customers participating in various mobility projects in major cities in Europe and the U.S., in order to generate broad feedback on electric driving under everyday conditions.
  • Hambach, France / Stuttgart, Germany, Oct 8, 2009 - Daimler AG today announced that it selected the smart plant in Hambach, France, as the location for future series production of the smart fortwo electric drive. As of 2012, the highly innovative electric vehicle, equipped with the most modern lithium-ion-battery, will roll off the assembly line in large-scale production and will be offered to customers through the smart sales network. The announcement was made on the occasion of an official visit of French President Nicolas Sarkozy at the Hambach plant.
  • Hambach, Sep 3, 2008 - Today, the one millionth smart fortwo rolled off the production line at the plant in Hambach, France - a micro hybrid drive (mhd) in the passion equipment line. On the occasion of the production anniversary and the tenth birthday of the smart brand Daimler presented the new smart electric drive. In Hambach Dr. Dieter Zetsche, President and CEO of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars said "The smart electric drive makes zero emission driving in an urban environment a reality."
  • Stuttgart, Germany, Jul 7, 2008 - On July 2, 1998, a vehicle with an entirely new concept first rolled off the assembly line: the smart fortwo. On that date an extraordinary success story commenced in Hambach, France. Until now, the compact two-seater has become the vehicle of choice of more than 900,000 customers in 37 countries. The smart fortwo soon got cult status and is the only automobile which is still in production to be displayed at New York’s Museum of Modern Art.
