Twice the electric range at 100 kilometres, 110 rather than 90 kW of electric power and a level luggage compartment with through-loading facility: the new plug-in hybrid from Mercedes-Benz, the S 580 e (combined fuel consumption, weighted: 1.0-0.6 l/100 km; combined CO2 emissions, weighted: 22-15 g/km; combined power consumption, weighted: 24.8-20.7 kWh/100 km) has many advantages compared to its predecessor.

Cooperation partners Daimler AG with its wholly owned subsidiary ACCUMOTIVE and enercity (Stadtwerke Hannover AG) will start work on the construction of a new battery storage facility this year. What makes it particularly special is the fact that this is a spare parts storage facility for electromotive battery systems. Around 3000 of the battery modules, determined for the current smart electric drive vehicle fleet, are being pooled to create a stationary storage facility at the enercity site in Herrenhausen.

Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-CELL customers ventured beyond Southern California last week for the very first time, while only filling up at existing public hydrogen stations along the route from Los Angeles to San Francisco. The opening of a new hydrogen station in Coalinga along the I-5 corridor made this opportunity possible. A team driving five B-Class F-CELL refilled at four permanent hydrogen fueling stations located in Burbank, Coalinga, West Sacramento and Emeryville, accumulating nearly 1,000 miles over the course of their three day trip.

In order to comply with the legal provisions going into effect in 2017, Mercedes-Benz will equip its vehicles with air conditioning systems that meet all the relevant performance and safety requirements. The Stuttgart-based automobile manufacturer will exceed the EU's climate protection requirements. From 2017, it will offer in Europe the S- and E-Class as the first production passenger cars equipped with CO2 air conditioning systems. These completely newly developed systems are based on the DIN specifications defined by the automotive standards committee of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA).

The neutral auditors from TÜV Süd have attested a high degree of environmental compatibility for the new Mercedes CLS. The coupe received environmental certification in accordance with the ISO 14062 standard. This is based on a life cycle analysis of the CLS, comprising a comprehensive evaluation of the automobile's environmental impact. The new CLS will celebrate its market launch at dealers on January 29.

The new Mercedes-Benz C-Class is the first car in this market segment to have an Environmental Certificate. The certification body of TÜV Süd Management Service GmbH has confirmed the saloon’s environmentally focused development, which results in further advances over the entire vehicle lifecycle in important areas such as fuel consumption, exhaust emissions and selection of materials. Mercedes-Benz is the only automotive brand worldwide to possess this hard-to-obtain certificate.
