The MercedesTrophy World Final was staged this year from 3 to 8 October. The final of the renowned worldwide MercedesTrophy customer tournament series took place in Stuttgart - the birthplace of the automobile. The winners were decided in three rounds at two golf courses in the region. In Stuttgart and Sindelfingen, the international guests had an opportunity to experience the history, present and future of the Mercedes-Benz brand. Bernhard Langer additionally dropped by for a two-day surprise visit and provided plenty of useful golfing tips.
Stuttgart. The best players among more than 60,000 golfers from 60 nations competed in the MercedesTrophy World Final for the coveted Nations Cup trophy. In all, 32 national teams from five continents took part in the competition in Stuttgart. An exclusive five-day programme centring on golf and the Mercedes-Benz brand awaited the 96 participants. A visit to the Cannstatter Wasen beer festival was on the agenda, along with an outing to the Mercedes-Benz Museum and a guided tour of the production process at the plant in Sindelfingen.
After three rounds, Team South Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore) emerged victorious at this year's tournament, with Team Latin America (Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador) finishing as runners-up and Team North Asia (Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam) taking bronze. The Team Spirit Award went to the formation from Mexico, as a mark of recognition by all the participating teams for a particularly fair and friendly manner. In all, 134 birdies were played on the demanding course designed by brand ambassador Bernhard Langer at Schloss Nippenburg Golf Club and at the Solitude Golf Club in Stuttgart. Two-times major winner Bernhard Langer challenged the players to personal duels - both at individual level in a nearest-to-the-pin contest and at group level in a competition based on gross rankings.

For me, the MercedesTrophy World Final is a unique event offering an opportunity to meet golf and car enthusiasts from all over the world. Special rankings offered the participants a chance to make dreams come true with just a single shot. The winner of the "Drive to the Major" ranking qualified for another round of golf: a qualification tournament for the so-called Monday After Tournament is held in the Carnoustie area during the 2018 Open. This golfer's dream traditionally takes place on the Monday after the major tournament – on the very same course at which the Open is held. There was also an extra-special prize on offer. A hole in one on course 10 of the Solitude Golf Club in Stuttgart would have led to a Mercedes-Benz GLA 200d (fuel consumption, combined: 4.2 l/100 km, CO2 emissions, combined:110 g/km) changing hands.Unfortunately, none of the players managed to sink the ball with a single shot.
